Ignoring opposition from marijuana advocates and civil libertarians, the Denver City Council on Monday night voted to ban people from smoking legal marijuana in private yards or on balconies if the activity can be seen from the street or sidewalk.
The council passed the measure on a 7-5 vote on the first reading, report Lance Hernandez and Jaclyn Allen at The Denver Channel.
"Everyone up here tonight is going to make some enemies," Councilman Charlie Brown, normally a strong advocate of regulating marijuana, told his fellow council members. "I can't support it," he said. "I believe in individual property rights."
"Government can't solve all these problems," Brown said. "And neither can our police department."
"I would rather see police going after serious drug problems than playing security patrol for the Stepford Wives," one opponent of the ordinance told the council.
But a parent who favors the ordinance claimed that allowing residents to smoke cannabis in their front yards "undermines our conversations with our children by making it appear OK." (Umm... wait, I thought it was legal now?)
It's ridiculous that people can drink on their own property, but are prohibited from smoking marijuana in the same locations, according to cannabis advocate Mason Tvert, a major backer of Amendment 64, the legalization measure approved last year by Colorado voters.

Have you been to Hemp Sesh yet...? If you haven't yet had the opportunity to join the 420 Nurses on a friday night, you're missing out on great times and even better people. I'd like to think of Hemp Sesh as the perfect spot for stoners to be stoners, as well as an ideal place to pick up some dank goodies! The vendors that grace us with their intoxicating products are quite similar when it comes to having high quality, but dont underestimate the fact that no strain is the same; and you can count on finding something new at every table. Not only does Hemp Sesh promise you top shelf cannabis products, but we (The 420 Nurses) host a variety of fun '420 games' followed by a raffle that everyone is able to participate in! Personally, I also find the prices at HempSesh to be far more reasonable than your average dispensary and you can expect good QUANTITY and QUALITY. I can't be the only one who looks for something 'stoner friendly' to do with my friends on a friday night...right? In that case, I urge you to come join me and my fellow nurses for a night to remember, and a place to forget about all the craziness we all deal with on a day to day basis...
Sometimes all we need is a little music, a little weed and an excuse to meet new people <3

Have you ever wanted to make a magic 'potion'...? Did you know it's not as hard as you think? There are tons of potions that can be made and consumed the same way you may steep and cozy up with some tea. Yes, teas are really the magic potions we read about in fairy tales! Tea leaves and certain herbs have been recognized for their magickal, as well as medicinal, qualities throughout the ages and can be made into teas or herbal infusions to bring in improved conditions. Whether or not you consider yourself a 'witch' or a Wiccan, these herbs I am about to share with you are naturally beneficial to the mind and body; and can also work for anyone with an open mind.
Amaranth ~ Reduces swelling, helps stomach flu and can be used in potions an/or incantaions that involve mending a broken heart.
Basil ~ Eases stomach cramps and banishes nagativity.
Calendula ~ Helps gum disease and helps to encourage psychic development.
Chamomile ~ Helps insomnia, eases pain and inflammation from sores/wounds, aids in meditation, attracts money and protects the home.
Daisy ~ Eases headache pain and brings good luck.
Dandelion ~ Detoxifies the liver, promotes blood and oxygen circulation and aids in clairvoyance.
Garlic ~ Works as a great natural antibiotic and dispels negativity.
Eucalyptus ~ Works as an insect repellant, aids in fungal infections, and provides purification.
Bee Balm ~ Creates a sedative tea and attracts positive energies & sprites
Angelica ~ Aids in cold & hepatitis relief, protects the home and garden.
Comfrey ~ Heals wounds, bruises, pain from broken/fractured bones and provides protection during travel.
This short list of herbs isn't even close to everything that's out there...but it just goes to show that nature has got our backs and we need to perserve it the best we can! Not all medicine is man-made.
Until next time,

I personally buy them organically packaged online and/or several stores such as The Psychic Eye and The Green Man. I recently ordered and received some (whole dried) Calendula flowers from Egypt, Lavender from France and Mugwort from Asia! They have all worked great in my teas too <3

One of the first things that strikes most people as odd when looking into the cannabis plants current dilemma – is how very legal it once was. Truth be told, it wasn’t just legal, it happened to be one of the largest agricultural crops grown worldwide, Including the United States.
As most already know – cannabis can also be known as hemp. And what is hemp? Well, it’s by and large the most robust growing, durably soft, plant fiber on the face of the planet. Up until 1883, and for thousands of years before, cannabis hemp was the largest agricultural crop in the world. Cannabis had thousands of uses and created even more products. The majority of fabric, lighting oil, medicines, paper, and fiber came from the hemp plant, during the birth of our nation.
Ironically, the first marijuana law ever enacted in the United States happened in the Jamestown colony, in the state of Virginia, in 1619. When farmers were mandated to set aside an acre of their prime farmland for the cultivation of hemp. As a matter of fact, Benjamin Franklin used hemp in the start-up of one of America’s first paper mills. The first two draft copies of the Declaration of Independence were both written on hemp paper – only to lose out to parchment for the final draft.
Up until the late 1800s most of the textiles made in the United States were made of hemp, while 50% of the medicine marketed in the last half of the 19th century was being made from cannabis. Yes indeed, it was heady times for cannabis acceptance. Even Queen Victoria had found relief from menstrual cramps with a simple consumption of cannabis resin extracts.
The not so funny thing about industrial hemp… Was that despite the fact that you couldn’t get high from it, hemp had somehow been lumped in with its black sheep cousin, marijuana? Then, in the early 20th century a blight on American reporting spring to the forefront under the aptly named moniker “yellow journalism.” Articles depicted minorities such as blacks, and Hispanics as “frenzied beasts” who would smoke marijuana, play devil’s music, and heap insolence and savagery on the white majority. Some of these egregious offenses included looking at a white woman twice, laughing at a white person, or even stepping on a white man’s shadow.
Eventually leading to the birth of the marijuana tax act. The marijuana tax act was not exclusive to just marijuana… As it also included and made prohibitive all hemp production and cannabis-based medicines. Politicians of the time, backed by special interests and big business, speculated that the cannabis hemp plant would be in direct competition with the likes of big oil, big paper, big plastics and a host of other industries which would rather not compete with the readily available, and easily renewable hemp plant. Once the political greed feast began – the campaign of intolerance against one of Mother Nature’s greatest gifts, the cannabis hemp plant was well underway.
It was the perfect storm of monetary gluttony, political malfeasance, and fearless environmental pillaging, which began the downfall of this life-saving plant.
RIP common sense – till we meet again.

Hello lovelies,
I'm Leenah Maenza (@never.been.sane), a new intern with the 420 Nurse's Los Angeles Chapter. I'm a mommy of three boys and an active cannabis user; I mention this only because if there are any other cannamoms who read or come across this blog entry, then I hope to be able to come off as relatable as well as provide comfort in the fact that there are so many more of us out there. So when did I actually became interested in this magical plant? Let's dive in! My entire life I have known about and been around marijuana; due to my father being a grower/vendor. Once I was around 14 years of age, he began actually teaching me about what "weed" really was (against the advice of others) and why it was so discriminated against by other people. The thought that a simple plant that was once in the form of natural seed and soil, could be so illegal at the time...only plunged me deeper into my interests. I wanted to know more! So I ended up doing research on my own time, and found that not only was it an illegal substance, but it had a bounty of medicinal properties as well as health benefits and that it could essentially be used to help save our planet through new biodegradable products such as papers and plastics. Now, fast forwarding to me as an adult, I came across the 420 Nurses' Community and saw purpose. I had finally found a group of women and mothers who were fully embracing themselves and the way weed was making them feel. It was almost new for me to see women fully in charge and empowering others to rise and become thier own leaders; and I found comfort in the idea that I could work in the cannabis industry without feeling constantly over sexualized by my male peers and/or superiors. I've had plenty of experience working in dispensaries, and I wanted to be a part of something bigger. After joining the 420 nurses and becoming a 420Nurse Intern myself, I have already felt a sense of family and acceptance by the other lovely ladies I've met so far and I am so grateful. I thank ChaCha and Summer for creating such an establishment and allowing me to be a part of this ever-growing industry... and I thank you, the reader of this post, for taking the time to read through and learn about my experience so far with my new sisters...
Until next time,
~ Leenah ~
