So here is a picture that I took at a wedding I had the pleasure of shooting for my cousin. When I got to Arizona, I met her husband's family and they were awesome. But his sister Anjalyn and I really connected. I loved heraing about everything she had been dealing with. During the reception, I caught this photo and the following was my little epiphany and post I made about it later when I got home as to why I love being behind the camera sometimes more than in front of it.

I had an absolutely wonderful time at the Estees wedding today. From the time I got there this morning until we left this evening. I took tons and tons of pictures and captured a lot of moments. I met some wonderful new family members, heard some wonderful stories and got to enjoy the company of people from many walks of life. I got beautiful pictures of the bride and groom. But this picture here is the core of why I have always been so in love with photographing people. Especially shots that aren't planned and posed. Looking at this photo the average person wouldn't know what what's going on here. It's just two people dancing at a wedding. But behind the camera, I know it's so much more. This is a mother and daughter. Mother and sister of the groom. Dancing, yes. But just flipping through an album you wouldn't know that this beautiful woman on the right has just won her fight with cancer. She's is celebrating not only her brothers wedding, but herself as well. Dancing with her mother. Enjoying her freedom from something that has claimed so many. Not afraid to share her story. Not afraid to just LIVE. This moment I was able to capture may not seem like a lot to the average person, but it fills my heart with so much love and hope and it's an honor to be a part of. Photographing people lets you be a part of something bigger. An important moment to someone. Being able to capture a story that can be passed on to generations. I always have loved photos, but today I finally was able to give an exact reason why.
Thank you Anjalyn for sharing your story with me. And welcome to our crazy family!
