Since returning to the 420Nurses I've started to join BakedBabe for Medicated Yoga every Monday. We've done 2 meetings so far and have been having fun medicating, stretching, doing yoga and even pilates at times it feels. I absolutely love to stretch. That was MY coping mechanism in High School whenever I would get far too anxious. It was just better for me to be working on my splits than to be panicking and ready to cry whenever I was overwhelmed. That meant my friends usually had to explain this to new people because I would stretch literally everywhere. This was extremely useful for getting all three of my splits down though. I still even have them to this day (over a decade later), how well I can do them is variable though. My middle splits are the best and hurt me the least, my lefts are next with minimal pain, and I usually don't attempt my rights as a party favor cause I will be feeling it the next day. I definitely need to get back into the habit of stretching though so doing medicated yoga every week really is helpful and I know will improve my flexibility. Dancing at Drag clubs, on cruises and at Seshes also are good motivators for keeping my body more limber and strong.
Our first meeting we all stretched as we took dab, after dab, after dab. We then did a fairly light routine to get limbered up and lightly sweaty. The second meeting was more intense as we did a routine that focused on arm and core strength. I forgot how my abs felt. But it felt good to feel that pain again. The nice part about being active is the more you do it the more you feel better while doing it. It's just hard to get into the routine of it to where you'll actually benefit, as with anything in life. Consistency is definitely key.
I'm excited for Medicated Yoga becoming more and more apart of my routine though. Everyone should give yoga a try at some point in their life because it really has numerous benefits and can help heal joint/muscle issues. It can also help bring peace and tranquility to a mind that is constantly busy and thinking. Yoga and Meditation are a good way to get out of your mind because thinking isn't always beneficial, there are times we need to not think and think and over focus on a problem. Sometimes we just need to let the universe guide us. So taking care of your body and being more aware of what happens within it is a helpful way to shift focus and bring peace, all while getting fit, and developing tricks you can throw out at dance parties to make people's jaws drop.
