As some of you know I have an 8 month old son who was born with CHD... which included about 5-6 different heart defects. Those that would be deadly outside the womb.. so 5 weeks after he was born, after being monitored in the NICU since birth, he had a temporary surgery to postpone his life since he was too small to do the full repair.

Well, this last week he finally had his major (hopefully final) surgery. The most stressful week of my life.

It all started at 11am on the 13th. We admitted him and got all of his paper work together and they took him back to the operating room at around 1pm. We discussed with the surgeon about all the risks like reacting to the anesthetic, needing a pacemaker if the surgery didn't work, then the worst one of all,,, death. By this time the waterworks already started and they weren't stopping.. tears ran down my face all day as all I could think about was loosing my little man,, my life.

The waiting game sucked!!!! It was the longest 8-9 hours of my life!

The Dr finally came out to discuss how everything went. His first attempt at fixing the problem was a fail. the second attempt was also a fail.. he had no choice but to go the sketchiest route to get into the heart,, and success, kinda. While trying to fix the hole he stretched the section too much to where it blew out another hole.... but thankfully he was able to go back in and fix that too. So in all the surgery was successful.

We finally got to see the little guy at around 10:30pm and it was heartbreaking. Still sedated and hooked up to all those crazy machines my tears started flowing again, even though they barely stopped. We met with his nurse for the night who was amazing. He was on top of everything, never left my sons side. He proved to us he was in good hands for the night, told us to go get some rest and to come back in the morning, so we did..

We showed up the next morning to them extubating him <3 it was so awesome to see he was breathing on his own so soon!! That day flew by as he improved so quickly.

The next day we got the scariest news possible. He stopped breathing in his sleep. When the nurse got to him he said all his eyes rolled into the back of his head, stats dropped, blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing all at once.. He died.... but only for a couple minutes. They were able to revive him and get all his vitals stable again. they have no explanation as to why it happened or how.

We then stayed the rest of the nights with him. Slept on a chair by his bedside all night for the next 3 nights.

The next day he was getting back to his old self as he started to wake up more and more. He gave us a little smile to let us know everything was going to be ok.

The days went by so slow as we barely got to smoke while being there, on top of it already being such a stressful situation. But we got through it and I couldn't be happier to finally have this all over with!

5 days Post op and we were able to bring him home!!!! It was one of the happiest days of our lives. We still have a long journey of Drs appointments ahead of us. Not all the defects were fixable but all that matters it that he will be able to live!!! <3
