This past Saturday, GanjaGoddess and I planned out an event to feed the homeless around Las Vegas. A lot of people think this town full of money, gambling, partying, and fun. Well unfortunately, theres a dark side too. Theres a whole underground city of homeless people living in our drainage tunnels. Over 100 miles long, with over 200 people just looking for a place to call home.
Well, we rounded up a little group of people and gathered at a park in the middle of town. We put together little goody bags with all sorts of things in them. We started off with making about 40 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Then we filled the bags with all sorts of snacks like apple sauce, jello, Vienna sausages, trail mix, ramen, and more. Not only food though, we had bandaids, tissues, body soap, and so much more.
As we finished making the bags we then drove over to Downtown Vegas. With us and our other group we had two cars, so we split the bags for anyone we saw on the way there. We had about 50 bags all together. We did our rounds driving up and down every street finding as many people to give bags to. We drove past this man who we had already given a bag to and he was sitting on a bench enjoying his snacks
one of the greatest feelings! By the time we met back up with the others we had 10 bags left, they had none!!we found a little courtyard where we passed out the remainder of the bags. We even had cops drive past us as we were handing them out, they didn't care to stop and give us that $1000 fine everyone was worried about.
As we were passing them out people showed nothing but gratitude for what they were receiving. We brought so many people happiness yesterday, it brought tears to my eyes. Having some people tell you "oh this is my spot, this is where you can find me" and its at an abandoned business in the back of a parking spot.. really makes you think.. A lot of people struggle 10x more than you, whoever is reading this. We don't know peoples lives or peoples or struggles, all we can do is be there for people and spread as much positivity as possible.
I can't wait to have the funds to be able to do this again. It's one of the things that make you feel all warm and tingly inside. We made so many people happy! Definitely making this a regular event and I hope more people can join us next time!
