I decided to write this blog based on what I've gone through in the past and I believe in giving back, and helping others however I can. As a single parent with health issues, being cut off from my family it has been a constant struggle. Just from reading blogs from some of you ladies I know we share some of the same illnesses, depression, anxiety,OCD, asthma ..etc. The invisible diseases.

I have faced homelessness with a small child,being ill and not having a clue what each day would be like and thank God we never had to go to a shelter.

If you are LA Native you probably know that Section 8 is closed and only being given to Veterans,The elderly and the very ill.

There is a special program for mental illness called Shelter Plus Care Section 8. This is the program I am on, its tenant based so you can go anywhere in LA county that LADWP provide the electricity. Ask your mental health care provider about this program. I am not sure the current process, I got mine back in 2012.

Another option is Low Income Housing. This is income based housing offerend all over LA. You would pay about half the cost of normal rent.

When you call these places you have to let them know you are inquiring about low income housing, because the application process is different.

Don't let all these new apartment they building around LA and in downtown LA fool you, they accept it they just dont advertise it..

Here are few I know for sure in Downtown LA that take it:
The Met Lofts (Flower & 11th)Across from Staples Center
The Met (Flower & 9th)Across from FIDM-I use to live here
The GAS Co Lofts
The Lorenzo (Brand New near USC and LATTC)
The Promenade(Figueroa)

Once you qualify for one of these programs, there are other programs out there that will help with moving in cost, like the deposit, uhaul, appliances..etc.
