In the cannabis community 4/20 is celebrated across the globe to protest against prohibition and celebrate our love for cannabis. 4/20 is a lifestyle and community that brings people together. Across the world we come together to send our message that prohibition is a failed policy and this wonderful plant has the ability to change the world.

Imagine a world where using hemp to make paper, fuel, clothing, water bottles, etc. was a regular practice instead of the unsustainable norms created by our society today. Every piece of plastic will never decompose, but every water bottle made with hemp is 100% biodegradable. Educating the public about the benefits of the cannabis plant is powerful to our movement. We can change the stereotype and the way people view cannabis.

4/20 is important to me because we make our voices heard and protest for our rights.

In 1995 the first 4/20 protest in the world took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at Victory Square. 200 people showed up the first year, then the next year it doubled, and by 1997 Marc Emery decided it was time to move the location of the 4/20 protest to a larger space. Over 1,000 people protested at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1997, and since then the protest has taken place in the same spot for nearly two decades. Every year the protest is bigger in size and shuts down multiple streets to accommodate the dozens of booths surrounding the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Vancouver 4/20 is also known for the world's only public cannabis farmer's market where anyone can purchase cannabis, extracts, edibles, etc. without a government ID or medicinal card. In the history of the 4/20 protest at the Vancouver Art Gallery nobody has ever been arrested. Vancouver police officers enjoy taking photos with people passing by and never interfere with the event. When people pass by the event they can hear the live speakers educating the public about cannabis. Many important political activists speak at this event, including Marc Emery and Jodie Emery.

4/20 is important to me because it brings the cannabis community together.

We all share the same love for cannabis and make a statement on April 20th to spread our message. It's important to protest on 4/20 but to me, 4/20 isn't just one day of the year - it's a lifestyle that brings cannabis consumers together. 4/20 to me means a lifestyle. We're a family fighting for a cause and we're doing our best to make a difference each and every day. #420Nurses420
