As some of you may already know, I'm a budtender in Southern California. I've been volunteering at the same dispensary for about a year now. Like any other job, there are times when you can mess around and have fun, but this a real business that requires hardworking, knowledgable, and patient employees.
Two things are very important - money and inventory. Each Budtender is responsible for his or her own drawer during their shift. We must pay very close attention to how much money we put in for each transaction, and how much change we take out if necessary. There are consequences if your drawer is short money at the end of the day. Inventory is easier to keep track of now that there is a SKU for every product. A SKU is a barcode we scan to pull up a product in our system. These products pop up on the iPads we use to check people out. Fancy, huh? On all of our mason jars that contain different strains of cannabis, there is a strain name, price, and SKU on the lid. If for some reason the lids get switched around, we also put the name of the strain on the bottom of the jar. Keeping the correct lids on each jar is crucial to having accurate inventory.
If all those mason jars are filled, the next task is rolling joints! If you've ever been to a dispensary, you've probably seen prerolled joints available. Well, those joints don't roll themselves! Little weed angels like myself take time to make shake and roll those joints perfectly for the patients. This can be a tedious process and there is no way to avoid getting shake all over yourself, so we tend to roll a few joints for ourselves to spark up after Smile
Okay, I'll be honest, smoking weed on the job is one of the biggest perks EVER. What other job could I take bong loads with my managers or smoke blunts with my coworkers openly? We work hard and we smoke fat. That's that. Since we get new strains every week, it's good to try the new product out and be able to give feedback to patients. People often ask what strains could help them sleep, or which ones will make them feel euphoric and happy. If you can recommend a patient exactly what they're looking for, that patient is more likely to return. The same concept applies to edibles and concentrates. The more personal experience you have with the product, the better for business.
After all the patients have been helped and the shelves are stocked, it's time to clean. Wah wah wah... We gotta keep the shop looking and smelling nice though! Sometimes I'll smoke a blunt before I start cleaning to make the process go by faster. I find that smoking helps me focus on whatever task I need to complete.
That's all I got for shop life. If you want to know more about how I got into this industry or how you can, please feel free to message me.
Thanks for reading my first blog! I look forward to sharing more of my life with you soon Smile please become my fan! <3
