The 420Nurses are a diverse group of models, photographers, writers, fans and above all patients. Through the 420Nurses I have connected with many different people each with a unique personal reason for embracing cannabis in their lives and different stories as to how it has benefited them. It was my pleasure to be introduced to a new Intern from the Michigan Chapter, Caramella420.

Through Facebook I was able to speak with Caramella420 about her own personal experience with cannabis and the 420Nurses. She told me her reason for medicating with cannabis is because she is a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. This is a form of cerebral palsy that affects all four of the limbs resulting in mobility being limited to confinement in a wheelchair. Due to this, most of her day is spent in a wheelchair that puts pressure on her hips and back causing constant pain. Pain that is best relieved by using cannabis.
As well, she suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and insomnia which is commonly treated by most doctors with opiates and benzodiazepines. So to avoid living a life drugged on pharmaceuticals she felt it was the right choice to medicate with cannabis in order to stay functional with minimum pain.

I was curious about how difficult it was to obtain cannabis in Michigan and she said she was fortunate enough to not have to worry about safe access since her caregiver always has it ready. Michigan is a medical marijuana state so even though access is possible it is more difficult than the plethora of shops in California.
She was brought into the 420Nurses by her friend GrlNxtDoor710 who is the Chapter Leader of the Michigan Chapter. Caramella420 is a natural photographer who loves to be able to photograph new things and increase her portfolio so she jumped at the chance to be the Michigan Chapter’s photographer.

She says, “After the shoot and sitting in on the meeting, I realized I wanted to be involved. My chapter has amazing members, and we get to experience so many great things.”
What she hopes to accomplish by being a 420Nurse is to educate people on the medicinal properties of cannabis and to dispel the myth that it is only about getting high. Cannabis can help patients feel better, live a fuller life, and be medicated without being drugged. And it’s through personal experiences such as this that show why Cannabis is medicine that needs to reclaim its legal status.

She says that beyond the 420Nurses her goals are rather simple but fulfilling. She says she wants to have a horse so that can she participate in Rodeos with her little sister. Carmella420 also would like to continue her passion for photography and become a professional photographer. Her main goal is to live life to the fullest.
