A pin-up girl, also known as a pin-up model, is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as popular culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display, for example, meant to be "pinned-up" on a wall. The models in pin up photographs illustrate glamour, style, maybe vulgarity and they transform this intimate and boudoir photography into the concept of art. Pin-up girls have been displayed on walls and billboards for generations; though the term was coined in the 1940s, pin-up girls have been a craze from as early as the 1890s.
Pin-up girls wear styles that accentuate their assets, bring out their sexual appeal, and make them look gorgeous, fun, and elegant all at the same time. If you want to dress like a pin-up girl, then you have to find a way to balance style with natural beauty and grace. Pin up girls are naturally sexy however, you can choose to include any props you want in your session. Remember, you don’t have to wear bra and panties or pose in anyway that would make you feel uncomfortable to still achieve that sexy-look.
Make up your eyes.
Apply a vanilla or champagne colored eye-shadow to the entire upper eyelid.
Then, contour with a darker neutral color and blend.
Apply black liquid eyeliner making sure you create flicks at the outer corner of your eye .
Allow to dry & then apply at least 2 coats of a good lengthening & thickening mascara.
It's a good idea to practice this look a lot before actually using it formally.
Pouty Puckers are Perfect
For pin up lips, use red. Cherry red, deep blood red, fire engine red, smoky red, coral, or a deep pink.
Outline the shape of your lips first with a red pencil but at the peak of your lips create a sharp cupid bow "V".
Fill in with lipstick that matches your lip pencil.
(The rounder the "V" the more bombshell, younger Pin Up the lip will be_
CURLS ARE A MUST
Pin curls and victory rolls were a popular look for many Pin Up girls.
Curlers are an easy way to quickly put a little extra curl in your style, you can also use just hot rollers , super hold hair spray overnight and a scarf. You can set your hair to patterns still found online today. Another alternative is a wig. Wigs were quite popular for pin up girls more than you would think! If you don't want to go through the trouble of backcombing your hair.For a little extra fun finish your style with a cute hair flower , snood , or a pin! There are MANY Ways to do pin-up style hair
Pick a pin up photo or model of the past, you admire and emulate some of their dazzle into your pin up style.
This will be a main key in recreating a perfect pin-up image.
Have wardrobe inspiration from the 1940's & 1950's.
Your aim is to create an alluring hourglass silhouette. Have a look in vintage stores & online for genuine vintage items from th ese eras or look for recreation. Key items include: wiggle dresses, pencil skirts, Cuban heeled stockings, round toed pumps, ballet flats, espadrilles, 3/4 sleeve cardigans, high waist capri pants & high waist shorts - to name a few. Try to create your own unique look. Items from your closet like sweaters with boat necks, and v necks were popular as well. Turning a cardigan backward and buttoning it up is a quick vintage pin up look.
Unique photographs do take some planning, and your choice in clothing and props is important.
