Canada is cracking down on freedom of speech, and putting limits to what "Freedom of Speech" really is. They already put limits on it about two decades ago, now making it so hate speech is NOT protected under Freedom of speech. Earlier in the year William Whatcott, local resident of Saskatchewan, was seen passing out flyer in front of a local high school to ban Lesbians and Gays from public schools. Of course this created an uproar, he has the right to preach whatever he wants, but is he really allowed to even if its harrassing another being?
Canada defines Whatcott's pamphlet “Sodomites in Our Public Schools,” as hate speech. It was a public statement purposely violating or dehumanizing a small group.
People have been signing petitions in saying that this man is allowed to say whatever he pleases even if it means degrading others. One man even said he was passing on the word of God. Which is funny because the Canadian Supreme Court unanimously ruled that Whatcott could not use the bible as means to hate speech. By hiding behind the bible and his Christian pamphlets he, "violated the province's human rights rules."

It shocked everyone because the courts ruling narrowed down what hate speech really is. They found 2 out of four pamphlets to be threatening the rights of another, and spreading hatred. The Canadian judges said it was a real victory for those who felt the existing hate speech ban was too wide. After having this on their judicial systems table for so long they finally said that gay bullying is wrong.

Now the question is was their ruling right? In my personal opinion I believe it was, no one should feel harrassed because of their race, religion, or sexual orientation. We are all human beings and citizens and no one should be able to take this away from us. I hold a very active roll in the gay community, because they really need all the support that they can get.

I firmly believe that putting limitations on freedom of speech would be good for our great country, that way cowards won't be able to hide behind such a vague ruling. What's everyone else's thoughts?
