Bare with me, this is the first blog I have ever written. I hope this helps give some insight on why I am so motivated to become a part of the 420nurses Network!!
I live in NY state. Medical marijuana is now legal but recreational still is not. I have been smoking "POT" daily since i was about 17 years old. I smoked to get high, eat food, and most likely take a nap. I never had any real education on Cannabis. I knew that hemp was infused with my aunt's bath products she use to buy but thats about it!! I didnt have any clue at how amazing this plant really was and in a few short years it was going to have such a postive effect on my life besides just getting stoned.
As you can guess I am a mom. I have three boys. Two of which are in elementary school. We live in a very "tight knit" sort of speak community when it comes to the school distrtict and children. I am a huge part of the Elementary PTA (parent teacher association). Without the PTA the students wouldnt have very many "fun activities" through out the year. Just like everything else, PTA moms have a stereotype. The goodie two shoes.Most likely a stay at home mom who has all the time in the world to spend her millions of hours of free time helping out during or outside of school every chance she gets.When I first joined the PTA three years ago when my oldest started Pre-K, I didnt have many mom friends. I was a stay at home mom of two boys. I hoped joining would not only get me involved in my kid's school life but maybe just maybe i would click with another mom or two and make some friends. I quickly learned that these moms werent as stuck up and pushy as I had pictured thanks to movies and tv growing up. As I became friends with these moms it was easy to find out who did and didnt smoke. NONE OF THEM! Bet your bottom most of them drank wine atleast once a week though. During summer break we Board members need to hold a summer meeting. My first one i was pretty excited for, I never really seen alot of the moms outside of the school enviroment, before that point. It was fun. I knew they all drank wine but I had no idea itd be offered at our meeting!!
Back then I never really thought twice about how it was socially acceptable we were catching a slight wine buzz during our meeting but I could never ask if anyone wanted to go outside and smoke a bowl I had stashed in my car. Theres the obviouse reason of it being illegal but also the stigma that Marijuana is a Drug and drugs are bad! This kept me from coming out to any of my new friends that yes I smoke weed and not only does it help me mentally and physically but that I truly enjoy consuming Cannabis!
Still to this day, going on four years with most of these "mom from school friends'', they still have no idea that Im most likely the biggest pot head they will every meet in their lives. I smoke most days from the moment I get out of bed until the moment i shut my eyes at night. If dropping kids off in the morning, im medicated. Picking them back up, Foot ball practice or a volunteer acgtivity at school-Yes I comsumed some form of mariujuana before showing up and you have no idea!
My reasoning for joining 420 nurses and starting my own chapter would be to share the benefits that hemp has and can have on the world today. I want to reach out to other moms who choose Cannabis and let them know its okay that you choose a plant to help you live your everyday best life. I want to educate about not only the benefits that Cannabis can have on our earth but for our bodies as well. I want everyone I come in contact with to know atleast one benefit of Cannabis. All that and more while building a chapter and empowering other women to join this movement and start empowering others in the way they choose.
