STARTING A NEWS CORPS

The NEWS.420Nurses.com is a new venture startup for the reasons outlined in Part 2. Though beginning small with only a few member Nurses, those who have initiated an interest in writing to ChaCha, the hope and goal of this branch is to become a corps, a news corps.

With that goal in mind, it is important to have a moral center toward the news, the subjects of the news, and your fellow 420Nurses News sisters. Honesty, compassion, accuracy, and fellowship are our corps values. With these values we will inform other 420Nurses of information and activism, as we herald the cause of cannabis, advancing the cause till we cover the earth with our global message.

The purpose of the NEWS corps is to provide content, or news, for the site. We need as much as possible to start and then a continuous flow or stream. This may sound a bit like pushing an elephant up the stairs, but actually it is pushing an elephant DOWN the stairs. Pot, marijuana, weed, Mary Jane, and cannabis news is everywhere.

The NEWS is to be divided into these categories: news/breaking stories, health/studies about disease, activism/politics and causes, fashion/cannabis products, tech/item reviews, and lifestyle/fitness and diet (after all, you are still models, just models who write).

Unless the news is being made by 420Nurses.com , yourself, or you are covering a live event, like an expo, you will need a source. Once you have a source, you must protect that source identity as a matter of news honor.

Developing sources.

Unless you have developed a source personally, do not think of a source from an organization outside this one to be trustworthy.

The easiest source to develop is a researched website that is cannabis related. Let’s say you see an article in the latest issue of JEMM. Check the url and byline. If the article is a study then go to that website to find the six story parts you need. Without revealing the url as the source, you can cut and paste the article meat and put in a link to the original article. Always credit who authored the piece or who did the study but not how you found out where it was.

Start your own list of sites from mags you check regularly for the latest news.

Seek out your own ‘mole’ within other camps. No matter what the cause, there is someone who would do things differently, a malcontent. Do not identify yourself as a reporter. If you must be ‘out’ be out as a writer. If what you hear is political, always get a second confirmation. Some people have an axe to grind rather than information that is solid.

Many times a person in a story may become a source for you on another story, possibly related, possibly not. There are times also when that person may know someone else with a scoop or tip. Always be courteous and respectful (and cool). Play to your strengths. A client for a product review may see you in a different light if you tell them you also report the news as well as model for cannabis/420Nurses.

Unless you are at an intern or a news staff meeting once we have a staff/corps, play your cards close to your vest, keeping your ears up and your eyes open because, like pot, news is everywhere, especially about cannabis. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
