Knowledge is power. Please pass this information along to your friends.

Prohibition of cannabis is a racist policy which impacts minorities at a disproportionate rate. It costs over $20 Billion per year to enforce prohibition. We also pay an average of $47K nationwide per year to incarcerate an inmate, and only $12K to educate our children.

The story that cannabis kills brain cells may very well be false too as its from dated and biased sources. Japanese researchers have proven cannabis can protect and grow new brain cells and have shown it to even protect against brain damage from legal alcohol. Recent research shows no correlation to lung cancer; molecular cell biologists at research institutions in California have shown cannabis can stop metastasis of brain, prostate, and other highly aggressive-"incurable"-cancers. There are even US patents held by major pharmaceuticals which prove this.

Our liberty is at stake. Abraham Lincoln said "A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded." George Washington and other founding fathers grew hemp and it seems very likely used it for euphoric purposes. Shakespeare used cannabis for inspiration. Cannabis is much safer than alcohol. In the last 30 years however there have been over 22 million arrests for cannabis, incarcerating non-violent offenders, and branding many youths lifelong criminals driving them to commit more crime.

The seizure rates at the US border also should convince us to tax, legalize and regulate to starve the Mexican cartels of their lifeline. In 2009, almost 1.5 million kilos of cannabis were seized along the Mexican border the second highest item seized, Cocaine, only 17,085 kilos. Real Americans are loosing their lives fighting the border war and regulation could halt a lot of trafficking, keeping US dollars at home where they belong.

Millions and millions of Americans have safely consumed cannabis and gone on to be doctors, lawyers, even US presidents. It's a safe alternative to legal alcohol consumption which takes lives every day. In fact, since legalization in Colorado, drunk driving deaths have decreased 12% and crime has decreased 6%.

As of February 2013 54% of Californians support the total legalization of cannabis.

Alcohol abuse and prescription drugs kill about 200,000 people per year, cannabis kills zero.

According to The Times "Almost one in five inmates in state prisons and half of those in federal prisons are serving time for drug offenses."

Prohibition and the laws that go along with it erode everybody's respect for the law and the police. How can they put a plant in the same category as theft and violent crimes?

It's degrading the respect that entire communities should have for law enforcement. When people are afraid to talk to the police, real criminals go free to hurt more people!

According to Harvard economist Jeffrey Miron, "Legalizing drugs would save roughly $41.3 billion per year in government expenditure on enforcement of prohibition. Of these savings, $25.7 billion would accrue to state and local governments, while $15.6 billion would accrue to the federal government. Approximately $8.7 billion of the savings would result from legalization of marijuana and $32.6 billion from legalization of other drugs."

Hemp has real potential to generate economic growth in our country and can be used in a multitude of applications. Cannabis is general is a billion dollar tax-paying industry already, and greater legalization would create numerous jobs in farming, commercial businesses, scientific and other lab work, as well as help support many local business with new means of revenue.

California's most expensive cash crop is cannabis, pays taxes on it's $14 Billion per year industry, that's almost double the second most expensive, milk!

Generate tax revenue: it's estimated that the underground marijuana industry is valued at $36 Billion a year, that's a lot of taxes that Uncle Sam needs! If Cannabis were legal, it's estimated that it would be a $100 Billion a year industry.

During alcohol prohibition there was a huge surge in black market and gang activity to meet the demand for alcohol. Sound anything like today?

Enforcement of marijuana related crimes is discriminatory; minority populations are arrested at a disproportional rate.

More than 700,000 people in the US are arrested each year for simple possession.

The City of Oakland raised more than $1.3 Million in taxes in just 1 year, 2011.

It's a violation of our civil liberties and is unconstitutional. The 10th Amendment states that “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Just like alcohol there should be no reason to not leave the matter up to individual states to decide.

Since the legalization of medical marijuana in Colorado there has been as 12% decrease in drunk driving deaths.
